We have 72 registered recipients in the Rice Run program. They are people who can’t work: seniors (over 60) or people who are handicapped. They are all Thais living in Rong Moo or Suan Ooy parts of the Klong Toei slum.

Shopping for supplies yesterday at Makro, we needed 72 bags of rice and that is exactly the number of bags they had!  Pretty neath and I took it as a sign.

The rest of the shopping was all easy and straight forward. Back at our storage room at Boss Mansion, Shannon and Henry came to help pack the donations into (biodegradable) plastic bags so we can deliver the help with minimal physical contact. Since Covid started we had to adapt to packing all the good before distribution but as soon as we can we’ll switch back to giving each person individual items to put into their own bags.

Shannon broke both of her arms last week in a bicycle accident and had major surgeries to help restore them as soon as possible. 5 days later, she is at the Rice Run helping to pack bags for the Thais – an incredible show of compassion and commitment to these people and something Sister Joan would really be proud of.

Nikola and Adri took the car from Boss to Rong Moo and distributed 71 bags. As always, they were efficient and super careful – no physical contact with recipients, just looking at their Thai IDs and matching them with our registration cards before putting a bag on the ground for them to take away. As always, Khun Jim was there to keep the line going and answer any questions… Here are a few more photos…

    Milk Run May 21, 2021

Nikola and Adri are on a roll, the third Friday in a row they are carrying Sister Joan’s Mission forward, bravely (& smartly) stepping into Klong Toei to deliver love. They continue in steps of Sister Joan and all the dozens of Milk Run volunteers over the past 29 years…

Four of them we miss so much! …

    Rice Run May 14, 2021

A very light and fast Rice Run. Nikola and Adri delivered 69 bags of rice, fish sauce, cooking oil and dried pork to our registered seniors of Rong Moo and Suan Ooy communities in Klong Toei.

The distribution was easy as recipients divided into 4 groups based on the color of their registration cards, each group arriving at a different time. In addition to not having a large group of people show up all at the same time, Nikola and Adri organized the distribution so they never have to touch the ID cards and so there was no physical contact at all. Sisters car was parked at Boss to complete another successful event.

    Milk Run May 7, 2021

The first time Milos didn’t show up in Rong Moo for a Milk Run in a very long time. Covid is making me stop delivering help but Nikola and Adri are stepping up and being there for Thai mom’s and babies.

They delivered 24 boxes of milk formula to Rong Moo mom’s and registered a pair of new twins there. In  Suan Ooy they gave away 13 boxes and registered a new baby as well. Here are more shots…

    Rice Run Apr 30, 2021

This was another easy and very streamlined effort: I went shopping alone in the morning, Janna and Adri came to help pack the bags at 3pm and Adri and I delivered the help with Khun Jim’s assistance.

We distributed 69 bags of rice, fish sauce, cooking oil and dried pork. Three of our registered Rice Run seniors passed away so the list is now 72 people long. Here are more photos…

    Milk Run Apr 23, 2021

Nikola, Irza and his friend came to help on this Milk Run. We are experiencing increase in Covid cases in Bangkok so I’m addition to using all safety measures possible, we decided to avoid all physical contact with moms and babies. Because of this, we gave milk formula to every mom that showed up with a registration card and a Thai ID but didn’t use the stamp and just verbally informed them about when to come for milk again.

We gave out 23 boxes of milk formula and registered 2 new babies in Rong Moo. Here are more pics…

Sister Cecilia joined this Friday, both at the shopping leg and the afternoon distribution. As always, she made things organized and efficient.

We gave out 71 packets of rice, oil, fish sauce and doubled the amount of dried pork because this is the Songkran week.

    Milk Run Apr 9, 2021

May, Jess & Irza joined today to make this Milk Run event easy breezy. We added another baby in Rong Moo where we gave away 22 bags of milk formula and added another baby in Suan Ooy where we gave away 21 bags of milk formula.

This was a Songkran Milk Run so every mom received an additional box of milk formula that was donated by one of the volunteers and we also gave everyone two cans of sardines each. Something to make their holiday meals richer… Here are the photos from this Friday…

We had four volunteers this morning and May brought back the wonderful tradition of ham and mustard sandwiches between Rong Moo and Suan Ooy milk formula distributions.

We added more babies today and gave out 25 boxes in Rong Moo and another 20 in Suan Ooy. Another wonderful Milk Run… Here are more photos.
