We had Vesna join the Milk Run again and we all had such a lovely time… May, Theresa, Michelle, Cynthia, Helen, Grace, Erez and I gave out 33 boxes of milk formula in Rang Moo and another 24 iin Suan Ooy we also distributed blankets, carriers and other baby items donated to the Milk Run project
A group of 13 Americans came to Bangkok at the end of October and oach wanted to make a gift worth $50 to a new mom in Klong Toei. We scheduled 13 new moms to come on Nov 2nd to receive a package consisting of a plastic wash tub, baby bottle, two sets of clothes, a towel and a blanket, a nail clipper and a pack of pampers.
Susan organized the event
As always, there was not a single baby crying. We visited the house Sister used to live in and had a long conversation about empathy, kindness and unconditional helping. We also found out that the small dog so dear to Sister Joan and to SJ has passed away in Jun this year.
Sister Cecilia joined our Rice Run and Milk Run shopping this time and brought her positive energy and always “can do” attitude along. We also had Simon come to Makro to help load the truck with 500kg of rice, 500 cans of sardines, the 100 bottles of Oil and Fish Sauce – all went so fast!
Sister Cecilia and Simon at Makro
The Rice Run was amazing – we had 21 people show up to help distribute. This is, as far as I know, the absolute record and shows how much people respect and love the work Sister Joan created.
In addition to expat volunteers, the boys from our School Run project came to help. Fiew on the far left and Art on the far right. Platu, the third boy from the School Run project was ill and couldn’t make it
We gave out 97 packets of food and, as always, all was right as rain.
Our biweekly Fri Milk Run took place this time on a Sat morning. We had a lovely surprise – three of our School Run project recipients came to help distribute the milk formula.
The kids in the front row: Platu, Trini, Blue and Earn
As always, we made stops in both Rang Moo and Suan Ooy communities. We gave out 25 boxes in the first neighborhood where we also registered 4 new babies! We gave another 22 boxes away in the second community. Here are the photos…
Sister Cecilia saved the day. She came to Bangkok for 24 hours, went to our car that couldn’t start and had it fixed and delivered to Sacret Heart Convent so we could get it this morning and make the shopping trip.
Our 17 year old car is purring again like a kitten
Erez and I did the shopping and our amazing group of volunteers delivered 99 sets of rice, sardines, fish sauce and cooking oil to the needy of Rang Moo and Suan Ooy. Thanks to Sister Cecilia, Sister Joan and the Presentation Sisters of Western Australia for more than 10 years of bi-weekly Rice Run.
We met today at Central Embassy Starbucks to start creating the curriculum for a new program – the Code Run. It will give high school students from Klong Toei a way to learn English and internet page programing (coding) at a same time. Programs that combine teaching English and coding exist elsewhere but this one will be offered for free to all students in Klong Toei that would like to start working with computers.
Cynthia and Ben were testing our School Run participants on their English and computer skills
To start creating the curriculum, we needed to find out the level of computer and English competency of our target students so we invited the participants of Sister Joan’s School Run project to meet us for a tea and a chat.
Ben and Cynthia, the two people creating this unique curriculum interviewed each student individually while the rest of us hung out and talked about the opportunities for these young people.
All four girls and two of the three boys from the School Run project came to help
Shannon, May, Trini and Michelle joined this unique session and made everything perfect. We met at noon and finished by 1 and before you knew it, everyone rushed back to their busy lives…
We had a Shannon Run this Fri as she took over the Milk Run and did it like a champion. I had to go to Immigration for my annual visa renewal so Shannon and the team did everything that needed to be done… and more!
Shannon and the volunteers at the Suan Ooy comunity
We also had to use Shannon’s car for the Milk Run as Sister’s truck battery died this morning… I’ll get a new one installed before Fri so we can do the Rice Run shopping then.
A sad surprise this morning… Our car battery, bought 2 years ago has quit…
We ended up giving 27 boxes of milk formula in Rang Moo and another 24 in Suan Ooy. We also distributed 7 or 8 large bags of clothing, 2 baby strollers and some toys. “Another success” as we like to say!…
We had a great Rice Run event on Friday. In addition to the standard 5kg of rice, 5 cans of sardines, bottle of fish sauce and a bottle of cooking oil donated by SILC, we also gave each registered senior a bottle of drinking water. The water came from Makro employees who know why we purchase so much rice every 2 weeks and wanted to get us the ongoing promotion…. Very kind and sweet, like so many Thai people.
We had 12 volunteers show up on Friday afternoon to give food to 94 seniors and their families. Some “oldies” didn’t show up this time, the weather has been hot with increased pollution so it is possible that some of them are really suffering.
We had a wonderful Milk Run this morning with many new volunteers and lots of smiling faces. We gave out tons of clothes and toys donated by Helen and other volunteers and served 30 boxes of milk formula in Rong Moo and another 22 boxes in Suan Ooy.
