We have 72 registered recipients in the Rice Run program. They are people who can’t work: seniors (over 60) or people who are handicapped. They are all Thais living in Rong Moo or Suan Ooy parts of the Klong Toei slum.
Shopping for supplies yesterday at Makro, we needed 72 bags of rice and that is exactly the number of bags they had! Pretty neath and I took it as a sign.
The rest of the shopping was all easy and straight forward. Back at our storage room at Boss Mansion, Shannon and Henry came to help pack the donations into (biodegradable) plastic bags so we can deliver the help with minimal physical contact. Since Covid started we had to adapt to packing all the good before distribution but as soon as we can we’ll switch back to giving each person individual items to put into their own bags.

Shannon broke both of her arms last week in a bicycle accident and had major surgeries to help restore them as soon as possible. 5 days later, she is at the Rice Run helping to pack bags for the Thais – an incredible show of compassion and commitment to these people and something Sister Joan would really be proud of.
Nikola and Adri took the car from Boss to Rong Moo and distributed 71 bags. As always, they were efficient and super careful – no physical contact with recipients, just looking at their Thai IDs and matching them with our registration cards before putting a bag on the ground for them to take away. As always, Khun Jim was there to keep the line going and answer any questions… Here are a few more photos…
