Sister Joan was 60 years old when she moved from Perth, Australia to Bangkok’s largest slum to serve the poor in 1991. She worked tirelessly 7 days a week for years and showed us the power of compassion and care for fellow humans. She inspired volunteers who kept coming, many of them for years. You can read more about Sister Joan here
This website is dedicated to her Mission that is still going, 30 years on. Sister Joan started the Milk Run in 1992 in response to high mortality of newborns and babies at that time. The Rice Run was organized as a group effort in 2002, after years of supporting different households and seeing that Klong Toei seniors needed help in getting basic food items. When Sister Joan left Bangkok in 2016 we continued to support elementary and high school students with weekly money through the Food and Fares project. When Sister lived in Klong Toei, she knew each family and their individual situations but once she left Thailand we had to stop the Food and Fares project a year later as none of us lived in the slum and we haven’t had a way of knowing which students really needed help and were still attending the school. The focus of Presentation Sisters order is education so in 2019 we started a new program called the School Run that supports registered students in completing university education.
