We had the full crew this morning as Adri, Miron and Irza all came to help. Great talk and great work, we gave out 30 packs of milk formula in Rong Moo and Suan Ooy.
Later, I took Sister Joan’s old truck for another wash…

Rice Run Feb 9, 2024
Miron was at Makro like clockwork, ready and able to make this shopping trip another success.
As always, we stopped for a Starbucks break, purchased the dried pork at Klong Toei market, loaded the car with last Rice Run’s leftovers and finally parked the car in Rong Moo – ready for the volunteers to come and distribute the food.

Milk Run Feb 2, 2024
A wonderful surprise visit by Shannon! 🥰 Completely unexpectedly Shannon came to this Friday’s distribution and we had a blast. Lots of laughter and love, her presence seemed to lift everyone’s spirits.
We delivered 15 boxes of milk formula in Rong Moo and another 15 in Suan Ooy. As usual, I took the truck for it’s biweekly wash after all was completed… Here are more pics from this Milk Run…

Rice Run Jan 26, 2024
Miron and I met at Makro to start this Rice Run Friday.
After shopping and a short coffee break we stopped at Boss, unloaded the Milk Run supplies we purchased and added whatever was left from the last Rice Run to the truck. As usual, we left the loaded car in Rong Moo, at the distribution point Sister Joan used since the 1990s…
Later on, our volunteers arrived and distributed 56 sets of food items to our registered seniors.

Milk Run Jan 19, 2024
A bit unusual Milk Run today. As I arrived at Boss at 6:30 in the morning to load up the car, I found sewage that overflew into our storage room.
Turned out that the small Thai restaurant right next door was pouring their used cooking oil into the sink drain!… I left the Boss crew mop it up and headed to pick up Adri and be on time in the slum – there were moms and their little babies waiting!
Adri and I delivered 15 packs of milk formula in Rong Moo and added another 14 in Suan Ooy. In that second community we also added another young mom with a newborn.
Adri left for work and I continued back to Boss to deal with the flooding…
In the end everything was sorted out but the storage room got a new lock on its door. In case you need to get in, please let me know!… Here are more pics from this Milk Run…

Rice Run Jan 12, 2024
I did the shopping on my own this time. It is easy except for loading up the car. There I need to move all the bags of rice twice – once to the back edge of the car before I climb in and place them closer to the center of the truck.
As usual, after completing the shopping trip I stopped by Boss and organized everything for the afternoon distribution and finally left the loaded truck in the slum.
Our incredible volunteers did all the rest! We had 56 of our registered Thai senior citizens show up to collect their biweekly bag of rice, cooking oil, fish sauce and dried pork. Here are more pictures from this Rice Run….

Milk Run Jan 5, 2024
Our first event of 2024 started in morning darkness…
Driving into the slum that is slowly waking up reminded me of Sister Joan and her 25 years in this little corner of Thailand’s largest slum. How amazing was her life here…
I packed her car with milk formula at Boss Mansion storage and picked up Adri and Willy on my way back to Rong Moo.
We gave 14 boxes of milk formula to our registered moms there…
… and had our usual coffee before continuing to Suan Ooy community. There we delivered another 13 boxes and added another newborn to our list!

Rice Run Dec 29, 2023
The last Sister Joan Mission event of 2023 was carried out by the amazing men and women who make this work possible – the volunteers from different countries and cultures, different backgrounds and religions all coming together to help the needy people of Klong Toei slum.
I wanted to take 10 days off at the end of the year so with Sisters’ approval I made the purchase of everything that was needed for this last Rice Run of the year and left it ready in our storage space.
Our amazing volunteers came and loaded it into the truck, drove it to Rong Moo community and distributed 54 sets to our registered Thai seniors.

Milk Run Dec 22, 2023
The last Milk Run of the 31st year of giving milk formula to mothers of Klong Toei slum. In these three-plus decades we’ve watched countless babies grow and many return to us as young mothers with their newborns.
Sister Joan used to regularly have several hundred people in the Milk Run lines and the great news is that the need nowadays is much less. Because Thai people are having better lives (and less children too) the Milk Run program now serves a total of just over 30 registered people in two Klong Toei communities: Rong Moo and Suan Ooy.
After giving 10 packs of formula in Rong Moo, Adri and I rushed to shop for soy milk to give to the local kindergarten in Suan Ooy. Sister Joan made a yearly donation to them and this tradition continues…
In Suan Ooy, we gave away another 14 boxes of milk formula…

Volunteer Dinner Dec 19, 2023
As every year, the volunteers met for a Christmas meal and this time we invited the participants of our School Run program to join us too.
In all, 11 volunteers and 4 students met at Cuppa restaurant on Soi 16 for some great grub and great talk. 🥰
