Miron and I did the shopping and our great volunteers were there to distribute the food items at 4 pm. They had 60 registered seniors come to collect their biweekly assistance.

The Rice Run project serves the elderly, typically over 60 years old, often living alone. This program started in late 1990s as a donation of rice to the needy and evolved in early 2000s into a more substantial help to registered recipients. Every 2 weeks, they receive a 5kg bag of rice, dried pork, a bottle of fish sauce and a bottle of cooking oil. Often, we will add more items donated by different individuals or organizations.

This 1st day of Spring was also Shannon:s last Rice Run and the end of her and Paul’s amazing assistance with Sister Joan’s Mission.
They were a central part of Rice Run since 2016 and Shannon took it upon herself to be there every fortnight while running a household and raising 3 young ones. 🙏🏻
61 elderly registered Thai seniors showed up to collect the food package. There were a lot of goodbye hugs and some tears too…

Miron and I did the shopping in our usual, efficient way… we were also lucky to find all the Milk Run items at Makro…
We left the car at Boss and Shannon picked it up later and drove it to Rong Moo…
She and volunteers delivered 58 good packages to our registered Thai seniors.

I got sick and Miron and Paul jumped in to complete the Rice Run and Milk Run shopping trip.
Shannon led the volunteers in the afternoon and they distributed 61 packs of food assistance to our registered Thai seniors.

Rice Run annual registration Feb 10, 2025
From the very beginning, Sister Joan supported only registered recipients. The Milk Run moms register their babies throughout the year, as they arrive but for the Rice Run there was always 1 day that all of potential recipients had to come and register.
As usual, the requirements are that the person is over 60 years old or holds a Thai Government issued card of a handicapped person. They need to live in either Rong Moo or Suan Ooy community of the Klong Toei slum and we use their electric bill to limit giving help only to people who can not afford an AC or other expensive equipment.
As in the past several years, Sister Cecilia drove in from Ratchaburi and Shannon and Miron joined too. Miron generously delivered cheese cake – wow!
We registered 63 people for the 2025 term and visited 4 houses to decide if all of them really needed food support.

Adri, Pete and I did the shopping on Thursday, Dec 12 and left the loaded truck at Boss’ parking lot for the volunteers to take it on the Friday afternoon.
On Friday, Miron’s husband Moss drive it to Rong Moo and the distribution went without a glitch! All of 61 of our registered Thai seniors citizens came and collected their food packages…
