I did the shopping trip alone this time. Had plenty of time to wash Sister Joan’s old truck before making apps at Makro, Klong Toei Market and Lotus’.
I’m the afternoon, our volunteers delivered all of the 62 food packages!!

The Rice Run project serves the elderly, typically over 60 years old, often living alone. This program started in late 1990s as a donation of rice to the needy and evolved in early 2000s into a more substantial help to registered recipients. Every 2 weeks, they receive a 5kg bag of rice, dried pork, a bottle of fish sauce and a bottle of cooking oil. Often, we will add more items donated by different individuals or organizations.
Events in the Rice Run take place every 2nd Friday at 4pm in Rang Moo community of Klong Toei slum. This is a Google Maps link to where we meet: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RCYSXM2dBkjPBF1g6

Rice Run Jun 28, 2024
Shannon and I did the shopping and it took us hours to complete it. Finally, at 1:30 pm we left the loaded car in it’s Rong Moo parking space.
K. Jim informed us that one of our registered Thai citizen recipients have passed away. He was 70 years old and this brings the total number of Rice Run recipients down to 62.
Shannon returned at 4 pm to lead the distribution. She, Art and other volunteers delivered 59 sets of food packages.

Sapee, Soe and I did the shopping trip in the morning and left the loaded truck parked in the Rong Moo community.
In the afternoon Shannon came and looked the group of volunteers to another great food distribution. They delivered 61 food packages to our registered Thai citizens.

Sapee and I did the shopping for rice and milk in the morning and in the afternoon David led the volunteers in delivering rice, oil, fish sauce and dried pork to all 63 of our registered Thai seniors.

Happy 93rd Sister Joan!! Rice Run May 3, 2024
Sister Joan was born on May 3rd, 1931 in Perth, Western Australia. She’s back home now, spending her days in great care of an excellent elderly home facility.
Sister Joan on a ferris wheel in 2019 We spent this Friday in Bangkok thinking of her while taking a tour of where she used to live in Klong Toei slum
and doing the usual bi-weekly shopping trip to Makeo and the Klong Toei market.
In the afternoon Shanon and other volunteers distributed 62 food assistance packages to our registered Thai seniors. Here are more pics from that Friday…

Sapee and I printed and delivered a new Rice Run attendence form to our volunteers deliver food packages faster…
… and after shopping and a visit to the storage room, we left the truck loaded and ready in Rong Moo.
At 4 pm our volunteers arrived and distributed rice, fish sauce and dried pork to ask if our 63 registered That seniors.
A perfect “post Songkran” effort! ❤️❤️❤️

Rice Run annual registration Apr 6, 2024
Sister Cecilia drive from Ratchaburi and Adri and Miron also joined to help with another annual registration for the Rice Run good assistance program.
Sister Joan started giving good items to elderly in the early 1990s but by 2001 she was helping so many that it needed to be based on registration and bi weekly food deliveries. In 2011 we were helping 120 seniors and this attendance number has been steadily trending down.
Until this year when the number of registered Thai seniors actually rose up, from 58 last year to 63 this time.
The criteria remains the same: only seniors from Rong Moo and Suan Ooy communities, over 60 years old and with no means to support themselves qualified. We asked them all to bring their electric bills as a proof of how much they can afford to pay and visited a number of them to make sure they really need help.
We ended up with 63 people we will give rice, cooking oil, fish sauce and pork for the next 12 months.

In the afternoon Yanna and the volunteers came to distribute rice, fish sauce, cooking oil and dried pork to our registered Thai seniors. They delivered 56 assistance packages.
